Veasey
African American Abolitionists
Henry Veasey was born around 1808. He was married to Mary and was the father of Aaron Veasey. He worked as a farm laborer in Kennett Square. He attended the New Garden African Union Church, also know as Bucktoe. It is here that he may have worked with Levi Hood. The author, Grayson, mentions that Henry was an Underground Railroad agent, but no other evidence has been found.
Bucktoe, being a black church, was a destination for some freedom seekers. If they arrived there, they would have been helped to get food, medical help and a change of clothes. Members of the congregation could have escorted them on to the next stop thus boarding the Underground Railroad.
