Kennett Underground Railroad Center!
We have exciting news!
The Kennett Underground Railroad Center finally has a home in the historic Dr. Isaac D. Johnson house! It's been 12 years since we packed up the "History Station" display in the old railroad depot at the foot of South Broad Street. For a few years, we had a presence at the Brandywine Visitors Center, until that display had to be returned to storage. In all this time, we have persevered--giving presentations and bus tours, researching various individuals and communities, and setting up our Pop-Up Museum at community events. Now we have a place where we can share all we know about the Underground Railroad operatives and activities in the Kennett area.
And now, more than ever, we need your support! In the coming year, we will be expanding our tour and presentation offerings, creating a program to capture the interest and attention of school students, offering an annual scholarship at Kennett High School, and installing an education and research center in our new home. KURC depends on volunteer efforts and private donations to fulfill its mission, as well as to cover operating expenses.
Please help by becoming a Friend of KURC. As a Friend, you will enjoy invitations to lectures, tours, and other programs and you will receive our quarterly newsletter, The Lantern. You will also have the satisfaction of knowing that compelling stories from American history will have an impact on people today and for generations to come.
With appreciation and in friendship,
