Lewis

Quaker Abolitionist

Lewis

Quaker Enoch Lewis was a self-educated man who had a profound understanding of mathematics, authoring many texts and being the foundation of the Math Department of the Westtown School when it began in 1799.

His greatest passion, however, was to see the evil of human slavery eliminated from this country. He wrote, orated, published, but most of all tried to persuade individuals, one by one, of the necessity of abolition.
