Ashmun

On April 29, 1854, the first college founded solely for African American students is officially chartered.
It's charter stated that it would give training to African Americans in theological, classical and scientific pursuits. It's first president was John Pym Carter. The Institute was renamed Lincoln University in 1866 and remains so today.
