Free Produce Store

There were several areas of Pennsylvania that began Free Produce Societies. These Societies were created with the idea of making a market for produce of any kind that was not made by the work of slaves. The Free Produce Society was created in this area by several local Quakers. George W. Taylor of New Garden, Eli Hambleton and Hannah Smith of Hammorton and Benjamin and Hannah Kent of West Grove. The goal of the society was to encourage slaveowners to give up their slaves to be able to survive in a market where what they produce cannot be sold. Unfortunately, this idea did not have a large enough following to make a difference to the market.
