Davy Augustus
African American Abolitionist
Davy Augustus was a go between for freedom seekers in Wilmington who were trying to go to Kennett Square. He used a large wagon filled with fresh produce to transport people as it would make it easier for him to stop anywhere to pick up or drop off freedom seekers while appearing to be selling his wears. It was also large enough for freedom seekers to hide underneath or act as if Davy's assistant.
Perry Augustus is thought to be Davy’s father. He helped take freedom seekers from Wilmington and is known to have delivered them to Underground stations in New Garden.
